Product Overview
Titanium welded pipe is produced by forming titanium strip or plate to size and longitudinally welding with high-purity argon shielding. It offers excellent corrosion resistance and significant weight savings compared to stainless steels. Ideal for chloride-rich, oxidizing, and many mildly reducing environments, welded titanium pipe provides a cost-effective alternative to seamless pipe in many low-to-medium pressure services.
Material Options
- Commercially Pure (CP): Grade 1 (max formability), Grade 2 (balanced strength/corrosion), Grade 7 (Pd-stabilized for reducing acids)
- Alloy: Grade 12 (improved crevice/erosion in chlorides), others on request
Key Features
- Corrosion resistance: Outstanding in seawater, brine, hypochlorite, and many chemical streams
- Lightweight: ~40–50% lighter than stainless, reducing system load and supports
- Clean and non-contaminating: Low ion leaching; suitable for high-purity water
- Weld integrity: Full-penetration GTAW with inside/outside shielding and optional purge dams
- Long service life: Resistant to pitting, crevice corrosion, and corrosion fatigue
Typical Specifications (Customizable)
- Outside diameter (OD): 19–1219 mm (¾"–48") typical range
- Wall thickness: 0.9–12.7 mm (schedule per design)
- Lengths: 1000–12000 mm; fixed or random
- Ends: Plain end (PE), beveled end (BE), or flanged per order
- Tolerances: OD ±0.5%, WT ±10% (typical) or per ASTM B862 / drawing
- Surface: Pickled, brushed, or as-welded; inside bead removed on request
- NDE: Radiographic (RT) or ultrasonic (UT) on weld seam; hydrostatic or pneumatic leak test
Fabrication & Options
- Liners/cladding: Titanium lined or clad pipe sections on request
- Fittings: Matching titanium elbows, tees, reducers, flanges (ASTM B363/B381)
- Coatings/ID finish: Mechanical polishing for low Ra in high-purity service
- Marking: Grade, size, heat/lot, standard, and traceability code
Performance & Service Guidance
- Pressure ratings: Suitable for low-to-medium pressure systems; confirm per design code and corrosion allowance
- Temperature: Stable properties from cryogenic to ~300–315°C depending on grade and medium
- Compatibility: Excellent in chlorides and oxidizers; consult for reducing acids-Grade 7/12 recommended
Quality & Inspection
- Documentation: EN10204 3.1/3.2 MTC with chemistry and mechanicals
- Weld QA: Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), Welder Qualification (WQ), WPS provided when required
- Tests: Visual, dimensional, RT/UT of weld seams, hydrostatic or air-under-water leak tests
- Traceability: Heat/lot identification on pipe and paperwork
Installation & Handling
- Welding on site: Use high-purity argon purge; keep joints clean and oil-free
- Gasket selection: Use compatible non-graphitic gaskets in oxidizing chloride media
- Support: Use padded supports to avoid galling; prevent contact with dissimilar metals in wet service
Lead Time
- Common sizes: 10–20 working days
- Large OD/thick wall or special grades: 20–40 working days
