How to install titanium exhaust V-clamps?

First, make sure the V-band kit you have in your hand is complete, a V-clamp, a pipe with a "male" tapered flange, and a pipe with a "female" tapered rim. Clean them all, especially the tapered joints of the two flanges, to ensure that there is no dust, oil, or old sealant residue, even the slightest debris can cause air leaks.

Installation Steps:

1. Gently and accurately align the flange of the male flange with your hands, and then carefully insert it. If you find that it is not aligned or difficult to fit, take it out to see if there are burrs or misalignments. Titanium alloy has high hardness but is relatively "brittle", and forced installation may cause scratches or even chipping.

2. Put the V-shaped clamp into the card slot of the two flanges from one side, and then slowly close it so that the two halves of the clamp are tightly aligned. Thread the matching screws and nuts (even better if they are titanium screws, to avoid biting to death from different metals), and here's an important action: apply a little special anti-bite paste to the screw threads. Because titanium alloy is prone to "Gavani corrosion" with other metals at high temperatures, it will be much easier to disassemble after applying this.

3. Just screw the nut by hand until it is difficult, and don't put on the tool first. Grab a suitable wrench (usually an open-end wrench or socket) and start tightening the nuts slowly and evenly. The essence of this process is "alternate, gradual". For example, twist half a turn on the left side first, and then half a turn on the right side to make the clamps close evenly. Your hand should feel the feedback of the screw force until you feel that the clamp has fully gripped the flange and the two flange faces are almost together (often leaving a very small even gap), and you can stop. Over-tightening can cause the titanium clamp to warp or the screw to slip.

4. After the installation is completed, if possible, it is best to start the engine and check it. After the exhaust system is cold and hot, observe the connection separately to see if there is any obvious exhaust gas leakage. Because the coefficient of thermal expansion of titanium alloy is different from that of steel pipes, it may be tighter after heating the car. If everything is in order and there are no air leaks, then you're done.
