Titanium metal is a key material in aerospace, marine engineering, medical and 3C industries, and plays an irreplaceable role in national economic construction, national defense science and technology industry, people's livelihood security and other fields.

"At present, China has become a major producer and consumer of titanium, and is in a leading position in the world in terms of the comprehensive competitiveness of the titanium industry, but in terms of high-quality development, it is urgent to make up for the shortcomings and accelerate the construction of a new pattern and new advantages of high-quality development." Recently, Ge Honglin, Secretary of the Party Committee and President of the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association, said at the 2025 Annual Meeting of Titanium, Zirconium, Hafnium and Vanadium Branch and the Titanium Valley Industry Development Conference.

First, The Output Continued To Grow And The Development Trend Was Stable

"In 2024, China's titanium industry will maintain an overall stable development trend, the output of titanium products will continue to grow, the titanium industry will show centralized development, the consumption of titanium materials will be differentiated, and the import and export trade will continue to grow." Ge Honglin pointed out.

Ge Honglin introduced that from January to February this year, China's titanium industry generally maintained a stable and progressive production trend. The output of titanium concentrate was 1.887 million tons, the import volume was 879,000 tons, and the consumption volume was 2.165 million tons, an increase of 3.6%, 26.2%, and 4.5% year-on-year respectively; The output of titanium sponge was 41,000 tons, the export volume was 1,000 tons, and the consumption was 40,900 tons, an increase of 12.8%, 28.6%, and 11.7% year-on-year respectively.

Yang Guanjun, vice chairman of the Shaanxi Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and member of the party group, and head of the titanium and titanium alloy industry chain in Shaanxi Province, pointed out that Shaanxi Province is a major province in China's titanium industry and the largest production base of titanium and titanium alloy materials in the country, and its industrial scale has maintained a leading position in China for a long time.

"The titanium of Shaanxi Province has an important influence in the world, and the scale of the titanium metal processing industry ranks first in the world." Yang Guanjun said that Baoji, known for bronze and prosperous because of the titanium industry, is China's largest scientific research and production base of titanium and rare metal materials, and is also the world's largest titanium industry development cluster.

Wang Yong, mayor of Baoji City, introduced that in 2024, the production and processing volume of titanium in Baoji City will be about 75,000 tons, and the output of titanium will account for 65% of the country and more than 33% of the world.

"Today's Baoji, there are more than 700 titanium enterprise clusters, producing more than 300 varieties and more than 5,000 specifications of titanium products, which are exported to more than 70 countries and regions." Gao Hongzhen, member of the Standing Committee of the Baoji Municipal Party Committee and deputy mayor, added.

"At present, China's titanium metal has built a complete industrial chain system, the level of technology and equipment continues to improve, the industrial scale continues to grow, the application field continues to expand, and the international influence continues to rise, and it is moving towards a new journey of high-quality development and realizing the historical leap from a big country to a strong country." Duan Debing, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, vice president and secretary general of the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association, pointed out.

Second,Break Through Technical Barriers And Accelerate The Pace Of L ocalization

In recent years, under the guidance of the concept of safety, autonomy and controllability, the non-ferrous metal industry has significantly accelerated the pace of localization, intelligence and large-scale large-scale equipment.

At present, in the new round of scientific and technological revolution, industrial transformation, expansion of domestic demand and other strategic opportunities, it is necessary to gather the momentum of development with innovation, the power of openness and cooperation, the difficulty of synergy with integration, and the blessing of reciprocity and sharing, promote cross-regional coordination and cross-field integration of the titanium industry, expand the application field of titanium, and promote the upgrading of the titanium industry.

"Since the '14th Five-Year Plan', the compound annual growth rate of titanium sponge production in China has been about 22%, and the compound annual growth rate of titanium processing material output has reached 7.7%." Ge Honglin pointed out that in 2024, China's titanium sponge output will be 256,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 17.6%, and the self-sufficiency rate will be nearly 100%; The output of titanium was about 170,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 7%, accounting for 65% of the global total; It has become the world's largest producer and consumer of titanium.

Ge Honglin introduced that since the "14th Five-Year Plan", the compound growth rate of titanium consumption in China has been about 7.5%, and the consumption of titanium in 2024 will be about 150,000 tons. The application structure is still dominated by the chemical industry and aerospace fields, accounting for 48% and 21% respectively, and the consumption of 3C industry continues to increase.

"The international market consumption is dominated by aviation, accounting for about half, and China needs to develop more new products, break the monopoly of foreign technology, and meet the urgent needs of the country's high-end manufacturing industry for high-performance titanium alloys." Ge Honglin emphasized.

According to reports, in recent years, under the guidance of the concept of safety, autonomy and controllability, the non-ferrous metal industry has significantly accelerated the pace of localization, intelligence and large-scale large-scale equipment.

"However, in terms of smelting process, it is necessary to upgrade more advanced smelting technology to essentially improve the quality and performance of titanium alloys and provide better materials for high-end applications. In terms of processing technology, it is necessary to upgrade the application of advanced processes such as additive manufacturing, superplastic forming, and precision forging to achieve near-net shape of complex structural parts. Ge Honglin pointed out.

Ge Honglin further said that from the perspective of industrial efficiency upgrading, enterprises in the whole industry chain and high-end enterprises in subdivided fields can still maintain good development by virtue of their respective advantages, but semi-process and small and medium-sized enterprises are relatively difficult and have poor profit stability. In addition, the production capacity of titanium sponge and titanium processing materials has increased significantly, and the mismatch between supply and demand has led to the intensification of "involution" competition, and the price of finished titanium products has been further reduced.

"While reducing the duplication of industry construction, inefficient expansion, and price involution, we must carry out further vertical integration to achieve optimal allocation of resources and upgrade industrial efficiency." Ge Honglin emphasized.

Third,Strengthen Collaborative Innovation To Promote Industrial Leapfrogging

Ge Honglin demanded that the whole industry must further reduce industrial internal friction, increase industrial integration, accelerate the improvement of the product guarantee of internal circulation and the industrial control of external circulation, and realize the resilience and safety of the industrial chain and supply chain.

At present, a new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation is accelerating the reconstruction of the industrial chain and ecological chain. Although the development of the titanium industry is subject to multiple challenges such as trade barriers and resource constraints, the demand for aerospace, biomedical and other fields continues to grow, and emerging fields such as new energy and 3C electronics also show great potential.

As a leader in the industry, Baoti Group has always been committed to promoting the development of the titanium industry. Wang Jian, Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman and General Manager of Baoti Group, introduced that over the years, Baotai has adhered to independent innovation, broken through a number of key core technologies, and created a series of internationally competitive products.
